Victory Over Japan Day 15 August 2025 80th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) is the day in 1945 when Imperial Japan surrendered, ending the Second World War. News of the Japanese surrender caused celebrations around the world. Allied soldiers in London danced a conga line on Regent Street. The 80th anniversary of this momentous event is an opportunity to honour and pay tribute to the UK and Commonwealth Second World War generation and to the UK’s Allies in that protracted and bloody war. A national two-minute silence will be at midday on Friday 15 August. If you do nothing else, please give 120 seconds of your day to be quietly still. Use this brief time to consider the debt we owe those who served, fought, died or lived through the Second World War. And pray that we do not have do what they had to do. Police – No update. |
